Kindergarten Math Worksheets

Counting, first sums and skip counting · Kindergarten to grade 1

Big, friendly first math for four- to six-year-olds: count the dots, add or take away within 5 or 10, or fill the gaps when counting by 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s. Only three to five problems on a page, with dots under the numbers to count on, and a row of stars or hearts at the foot of the page – one for each problem – for a grown-up to colour in as the child goes.

Skills: counting to 10, addition within 10, subtraction within 10, skip counting. Format: printable, randomized on every load.

Sheets are randomized, free to print, and carry no answer key on purpose – why Super Awesome Math works this way.

Frequently asked questions

Is my child ready for this?
If they can count five things by touching each one once and say how many there are, they are ready for the JK level. SK suits a child who counts to ten reliably and knows the numerals 0 to 10 by sight. Start with Count, and move on to Add once a counting page is easy.
Why only three to five problems on a page?
At four or five, attention runs out long before the arithmetic does. A short page is finished in a few minutes and every problem earns a star, while a page of twenty problems ends in tears. Print more copies instead and do one page a day.
What are the dots for?
They let a child who cannot yet add in their head count instead: count all the dots under both numbers for a sum, or count the dots that are not crossed out for a take-away. Turn them off once the answers come without touching the page.
